TAMISA LAUNCHES TO TRANSFORM TANZANIA'S MINING SUPPLY SECTOR

Mining suppliers unite under TAMISA

Dar es Salaam, September 15, 2024: In a landmark development for Tanzania’s mining industry, the Tanzania Mining Industry Suppliers Association (TAMISA) has officially launched, setting a new standard for local content and supplier empowerment. This pivotal organization aims to revolutionize the mining supply and service sector by forging meaningful connections among companies, advocating for supplier interests, and advancing local content policies that drive sustainable economic growth. TAMISA’s launch represents a major step forward in integrating Tanzanians into the mining sector, ensuring that the country’s mineral wealth benefits local communities directly while fostering a culture of innovation and business sustainability.

At the launch event, Hon. Anthony Mavunde, Minister of Minerals and Guest of Honour, praised TAMISA’s commitment to local content policies. “Integrating Tanzanians into the mining sector through local content is essential for sustainable growth. TAMISA’s formation as the official collective voice of mining suppliers will enhance our efforts to address local content challenges and ensure that our mineral wealth benefits our citizens directly,” stated Hon. Mavunde.

He also outlined the government’s broader vision: “We envision Tanzanian companies not just participating in the mining sector but actively manufacturing mining equipment and products. By prioritizing domestic employment and the use of locally produced goods and services, we aim to foster economic growth, reduce dependency on foreign inputs, and stimulate job creation and skills development. TAMISA’s establishment under the Tanzania Private Sector Institute provides mining suppliers with a crucial platform to advocate for their rights and contribute to a more robust business environment.”

Peter Kumalilwa, Chairman of TAMISA, emphasized the organization’s objectives. “Today marks a significant milestone for the mining industry in Tanzania. TAMISA is committed to empowering mining suppliers, advocating for their interests, and enhancing the business environment. Our core goals include advocating for suppliers, improving trade facilitation, defending supplier rights, and promoting research and technology transfer. By driving innovation and sustainability, we aim to position our members as leaders in the industry.”

Kumalilwa added, “The mining sector has long been a cornerstone of our economy. To fully harness its potential, we must extend the benefits of mining to the broader economy through the development and empowerment of the local supply chain. TAMISA was created to champion the growth and success of mining industry suppliers, ensuring they thrive in a supportive and dynamic environment.”

The launch event, held at Johari Rotana Hotel, featured keynote addresses from founding members and industry stakeholders, outlining TAMISA’s strategic objectives and vision for the future of Tanzania’s mining sector.
